Our love for progressive politics is equaled by our love for well-produced entertainment. That’s why we couldn’t say no to Peace Action New York State when they approached us about doing the promotional flyers for their second annual end-of-summer film festival. This year’s festival, Wastelands: The Environmental Casualties of War, focus’ on the impact that military action around the globe has not only on human life and economy, but the long-term effects war has on the planet we live on.
As the budget for the project was low, most of the reproduction would be done utilizing the resources available, so the flyer was kept to just black and white a it would translate the best on a photocopier. The irony of printing a large number of flyers promoting a film festival highlighting the environmental destruction at the hands of war was not lost on us, so the flyer was made as small as possible, fitting two-up on a letter sheet of paper. The flyer is small, but it packs a punch, with a linocut inspired graphic treatment and a broadside-inspired layout.
