In an effort to increase my ability to set and print hand set type (especially borders) as well as get back in touch with more tradition based design sensibilities, I re-designed the title page to the classic printing book, The Practice of Printing: Letterpress and Offset. The original title page conveyed a standard hierarchy of information, but was boring and poorly designed, something that works against a book that speaks of a design based tradition. I moved forward with the project with the intention of maintaining the visual hierarchy while pushing the design much further using the same processes available at the time of the book’s printing.
