Patrolling Cyberspace: Lessons Learned Through A Lifetime in Data Security is a memoir directly from the pen of Howard Schmidt, the man responsible for introducing cyber-forensics into the FBI. However, his resume doesn’t end there. Having worked for Microsoft, eBay, former president Bush and many others, Howard has been at the forefront of almost every computer threat of the past 30 years. This book is not a “How To…” computer security book, it’s a first hand account of the past 30 years of computer attacks, beginning with phone phreaking and following through to a glance at what the future holds for cyber security.
The manuscript was supplied with the beginnings of a cover, so initial design intent and direction had been decided upon by the time that the book landed in our lap. Our job was to refine the imagery, figure out the typography of the cover and apply the theme throughout the interior pages. It was the first time we’ve worked with an author supplied cover, and we were unsure what to expect, but the final book turned out wonderfully, visually connecting 30 years of cyber crime in one fell swoop of our wacom pens.
