Our paths converged with that of Carl, the developer of Ophidian Wars, through a friend of the studio, and at our first meeting when we heard the words “retro RPG” we were hooked. The game takes place on the world of Avagar, and chronicles the unrest on the planet that occurs when a new species shows up and invades the peace and balance that had existed. It’s setting is in a fanciful past, but with an element of technological advancement.

At the beginning of the project we were supplied with artwork showing character development, and of the world map (put together by the always wonderful Jeremy Lowther). We bounced around quite a few ideas while developing the original site concepts, but always came back around to the idea that the site itself was contained at various points on the world map, using the map as a backdrop. Navigation, rather than loading a new page, would swoop the user across the map to a new region of the land with new content to be taken in.

The game logo was also created during website development. With the game taking place at a crucial moment in the planet of Avagar’s history, we wanted to create a logo that was reminiscent of an artifact from the planet’s past. Perhaps carved by a prophet centuries earlier, this new race of beings stumble upon it as they first step foot on the surface.
