As Haunted Life and Underground Communique finished up work on the band’s debut EP time ran out and the band was going to not have the discs in hand before they left for tour. We were talking with Justin (owner of Underground Communique) one night out on the back patio and we mentioned we had just started doing some letterpress work. If he could get 200 discs made in a short-run I could easily toss together 200 packages for him. He made some phone calls the next day and we were on.
We used the process to get more accustomed with the process of letterpress: hand-setting type, setting up the press for multi-layered printing surfaces, registering multiple impressions and creating strong type-only compositions. The day before we printed the covers, Justin mentioned that he was adding on two bonus tracks to the discs that would not be on the full run of the actual EP. Having a little bit of fun with the non-hidden nature of hidden tracks, we added the song titles to the clear ink impression right before we went to press.
