While running a record label, we had first hand experience with the difficulties of the world of press relations. Getting media outlets to write/talk about your project was the bane of our existence. This book was written by a former reporter to highlight the secrets of getting past the barriers surrounding magazines / newspapers / broadcast news to make it into the headlines.
While the PR world is quite difficult I wanted to keep the cover simple to highlight the book’s accessibility. Photos were taken of stacks of newspapers and magazines (the very same the readers would soon be working with?) at angles that made them feel more daunting than they need to be. The title treatment was done to mimic the various levels and hierarchy within the media outlets that you have to navigate to get your story noticed. It’s a simple cover with depth that brings the message of the book clearly to the front and invites readers to find out more.
