As the Chicago Independent Radio Project grew into their first home on the web it became clear that the way the site would be used in reality differed from the way we all envisioned it would be used in our original discussions. As the group geared up to launch their new radio station at the beginning of 2010, it became clear that the time to redesign the website to match the site’s needs was now.
It was quite simple, rather than a simple showcase of all the good the site was doing, what CHIRP needed was a blog. Somewhere they could write about the community, allow the community to interact with them via comments, and an easy way to build out new pages/sections as they were needed. They needed a framework that was more flexible, and a look that would mesh well with the soon to be launched (at the time) new radio station website.
In addition to all of that, we tied the site into their social networks much tighter, allowing for much easier integration with their Facebook and Twitter communities and highlighting all the communities they were a part of at the very top of the page. Community was the key when the site was redone and since the site has launched it’s been apparent that that was surely the way to go.
