In the fall of 2007 the Chicago Independent Radio Project began their journey. While their journey has had many paths (fighting for community voices on Low Power FM, organizing for community radio, working with the FCC and Congress to rewrite the broadcast laws of this country to favor local organizations) the most impressive thing they’ve been hard at work on is the creation of a brand new, community radio station here in the city of Chicago. It took two and a half years, a lot of blood and sweat and long nights and emotional dips but on January 17th at noon CHIRP unveiled their new station and a new journey begun.
We’ve been working with CHIRP from the beginning, helping craft their identity and develop their web presence, and we couldn’t be more proud to be the ones to help them give their new station a presence on the web. Everything about this site is built from the ground up to make as huge a dent in the wall between the DJ and the listener as possible. Features were added to foster dialogue, focus on the content that listeners wanted most, and more than anything else, try to make it as easy and enjoyable as possible for the average listener to become an active listener.
This is only the start of the journey as not hours after we made the site live we began brainstorming and diagramming our plans for new features to include in v.2.0 of CHIRP Radio’s web presence, but for now, we’re just as happy as the rest of the city to sit back in our chair and enjoy the hard work of CHIRP’s labor over the past 2+ years.
