My first foray into the world of typeface creation, this digital typeface was created from scans of a metal type family found at Starshaped Press called Elegante, originally cast in the 1930’s by the Baltimore Type Company. Not having a digital version at the studio to use for mocking purposes, I decided to embark on this project as a way to help out the studio while also getting to know the ins and outs of type creation tools.
I was always drawn to this font while I worked at the studio due to it’s combination of the flowing lines found in the Art Decco with the jagged edges found throughout the industrial revolution. The typeface works best as a display face, however, when used in the proper circumstances, it works perfectly well as a sub-14pt. body copy face as well.
