When we first started working with Action Heights Records, one of the first tasks assigned to us was to create a new logo for the label. They were dead set on having a cassette tape as their logo, and they had already gone through three various cassette tape illustrations on their first three releases. The illustrations were highly stylized and just didn’t work for the feeling the label was trying to portray. Rather than try to make a new illustration, I found an old cassette tape in my apartment and pulled out my scratch lettering. I lettered Action Heights Records onto the cassette and went to my nearest friendly copying machine.
The type used in the logotype is from a Letraset sample book and is from the ligatures for Avant Garde Bold. Rather than go with the digital version, I photocopied the letters from the sample book and let nature take it’s course through the process of shrinking and enlarging the type.
The two marks were created at the request of the label and can be used together or independently.
